Lenticular Clay was my final project in an interdisciplinary studio between the Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Ceramics department at the Rhode Island School of Design. The prompt was to design a masonry wall system and make a fragment of it for installation. The concept was inspired by lenticular prints, where the image shifts as the user’s perspective changes. This was a group project - with one student from each discipline - and we experimented with how to create a rich optical experience with a solid masonry unit. The brick faces are grooved so they lock together, but can also shift incrementally, giving the wall its undulating effect. The spatial schemes are my own, and represent how the wall might be used in the built environment.
